REVIEW: Baroness Aloe Vera Mask Sheet

Hi Everyone!

I'm catching up on all the reviews I've left out this month, so bear with my posts for the time being.

So this is the weirdest thing I've done when it comes to buying skincare products. Usually, I would buy them in flagship stores where I'm sure things are branded and safe and everything. This time I tried being a bit daring.

I bought a face mask whose I brand, Baroness, I've never heard of in a Korean Restaurant here in Mauritius (LOL). Well, it was one among the first Korean restaurant in Mauritius. The food was great there by the way. I once posted a foodporn picture on my Instagram account. Anyways, the owner also sells some goodies from his hometown, that is Seoul (OMG!!!!), namely Korean Tea, Soju (should taste that one day), face masks. I wanted to try one of the face masks though, particularly, the one made with snail secretions, but I think I was not mentally prepared for this. So I ended up with the regular Aloe Vera for a trial.

It cost Rs 50 (almost $1.40). The packaging is quite simplistic, not so colorful and bright like Innisfree and THEFACESHOP's masks packaging.

What it claims:

"This skin-matching mask sheet helps your skin to be elastic and look younger by giving effect of moisturising and forming a firm on skin you feel silky and fresh"

On removing it from its packaging, it looked like any face mask sheet. It was not as soft or stretchy as other mask sheets I used before. Its texture was a little more rough. However, to be honest, the smell that emanated from it was overpowering. I think the alcohol content was a bit high, not a bit, a hell lot higher than expected. The smell reminded me of strong colognes. But damn, I was afraid it would damage my skin or cause me to break out. I decided to try it for a few minutes instead of 15-20 minutes as recommended though.

Killer look selfie time

Also, I thought since it was Aloe, it would be soothing and moisturising for my skin.  But damn, when I put that mask on, it was refreshing for a moment but after about five minutes, I started feeling a stinging sensation on my face. S***t!
I removed it instantly from my face. I was almost sure it would have dry out my skin and cause break outs or any other irritations.  In general, I would pat the left over essence from the sheet mask all over my face and on my body. This time, I washed my face thoroughly to remove the remaining essence. Then I carried on with my usual skincare routine. But hopefully, as at date, I have no serious breakouts (Touch wood). But this seriously gave me quite a good scare.

I know I sound paranoid because it's a brand I know nothing about. But trust me, that strong alcohol/cologne smell made me wonder if I weren't being too risky for my face. Although I love the restaurant's food (since the review is not that positive, I'd rather not mention its name to avoid looking like I'm ostracizing it. Seriously, the food is great), I'm never buying cosmetics stuffs from there ever again.

Some foodporn from my fave Korean Restaurant to compensate:

Rice, kimchi and again Korean Spicy Chicken

Sure, the Baroness Aloe Vera Mask Sheet did mentioned 'made in Korea' but I'd rather not venture in unknown waters like that again. My motto when it comes to buying and using cosmetics have always been the safety of my skin first. I'm already being lectured at home for putting too much stuffs on my face. And that's why I refrain from buying cosmetics from ebay, Amazon and websites selling samples and products. Otherwise I would have reviewed a wider array of brands.

So that's it for the Baroness Aloe Vera Mask Sheet. It don't think I should make a Pros/Cons List. I really didn't like that product.

STAY BEAUTIFUL AND SWEET!

    1. Hello Violet :D :D :D

Thanks for your concern. Hopefully, nothing serious happened to my skin. My acne just comes and goes but nothing that would alarm me occurred because of that sheet mask yet. That stinging feeling I've never felt from other brands, scared me indeed.

As a cosmetics lover and now reviewer, I want to try a lot of products, and this craze has been increasing a lot lately. As a result, I've been thinking less about the consequences that might arise. But this incident just sent me a reminder that I should be careful with skincare products, that I should check where they come from, their brand, ingredients do they have good reviews, awards from experts, etc. I feel like I've been playing with fire lately. I'm most cautious with websites or stores claiming to sell genuine korean products. Maybe they are, but I'd rather go on official websites even if that restricts me from reviewing other brands I'm dying to have or if I have to pay a higher price for them.

Anyways, thanks for reading my post. :) : ) :) Please share if ever you know people who tend to go reckless with cosmetics, cause there are a lot out there for sure.

    2. Hello! Sorry I'm late :( For cosmetics it is good to try one at a time, so if some problems of you know who is to blame :D
I would share it, but here in Italy Korean cosmetics are unknown ... I am trying to bring my friends in this world but nothing :( Hahaha at the next post ;)
Ps: sorry for bad English ;'(

    3. Lol!!! yeah, but we should always be careful about the products we are using. better be safe.

Thanks for sharing then. Korean cosmetics are not well known in Mauritius neither. Only K-pop or K Drama fans are knowledgeable of them a little bit. Since The Faceshop opened a store in Mauritius, more people are getting to know about Korean products. However, people still prefer European brands here. They don't really trust Asian brands a lot.
No worries for language. As long as we can understand each other, it's ok. Too bad I can't speak Italian. I also speak French, if that can help :P

    5. Yeah, they opened an official flagship store in Mauritius in May this year. I've been going crazy with their products. My fidelity card is almost full of stamps. The reps recognize me and are always there to advise and help. That's the main benefit of having a flagship store instead of an virtual one.
Yesterday, I discovered a shop that sold a French-Korean brand called Erborian among many other French brands. Have you heard of it?
