REVIEW: Kao Megrhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask

Hello Everyone!

Has anyone tried Steam eye masks? Yes, they give out heat as you lay them on your eyes. No Batteries, No electricity, whatsoever, unlike heated slimming belts. It  just starts heating up automatically, like magic. To be honest, I didn't know such things existed until my cousin from Hong Kong brought me some.

It's actually a Japanese brand (Lucky Hong Kongers) called  Kao Megrhythm. It is sold around online on ebay and somewhere in HK (maybe in Watsons or Sasa. It cost HK$ 12, which is very affordable. The price would also depend on whether you are buying in packs, scented or unscented versions or just dealing with gold diggers or fakes out there. Too bad I was just only starting to like cosmetics when I went there two years ago. Damn I miss that city even more now).

Anyways, I had a hard time trying to figure out about the brand name, the ingredients and instructions, 'cause everything was written in Japanese (Not practical at all). But, I managed to find the website of Kao.

The Kao Megrhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask is made by the Kao Group from Japan, which is in the business of  "prestige cosmetics, and premium skin care and hair care products; the Human Health Care Business with products that include functional health beverages and feminine and baby care products; and the Fabric and Home Care Business, which includes laundry detergents and household cleaners." They are also in the Chemical Business. So, this company is no joke.

KEY PRODUCT FEATURES
  • Well designed all-rounded mask wraps your eyes gently!
  • Ultra-thin material conforms to your eye contours.
  • Ear loops prevent slipping and cater to usage in any position.
  • Warms up immediately upon opening of pouch; convenient to use anywhere.
  • Disposable mask makes it convenient and hygienic to use.
You can use it anywhere, anytime!

MegRhythm Steam Eye Mask comes in packs of 5 and is available in the following scents:

As for me, I got to try only the unscented and the Fresh Rose Aroma. The eye masks look actually like cotton pads with ear straps, unlike the Korean Masks that look like jelly patches. It's actually more practical if you are sitting or standing. It won't slide down your face like a piece of slime.

The Unscented version has polka dots designs while the Fresh Rose Scented one had checkered designs.

What it does

MegRhythm Steam Eye Mask warms gradually to a comfortable 40℃ the moment you put it on. Lie back and enjoy the soothing sensation of gentle heat enveloping your tired eyes, and allow the steam produced to moisten and soothe them!

Enjoy the de-stressing session. Refresh yourself with brighter looking eyes!
A little of Physics class here!!! Where does that steam come from? It's actually steam. From the explanations below, no wonder Japanese are considered as one of the most innovative guys in the world.

I even proceeded with a dissection session of the mask. I am so curious.

Simply amazing, who would have thought such a complex system could be fitted in between thin cotton pads. Using oxidization of iron powder to produce heat and evaporation of moisture, I am just amazed. Hope you are not shocked by how in awe I am in front of such an invention. Truly cosmetics to me is Science. This reminded me of my Physics classes. sigh

From whatever information I could gather, it's supposed to relax and de-puff the eyes with its heating properties and pleasing scents, kind of make you feel like at the spa. It can be used on the go in the office (make sure your boss does not catch you red-handed), at home, in bed, on the plane.

My Experience

The first time I used it, I had not yet found the above info and screenshots. It was  a completely blind trial. I was trying to figure out how it would heat up. When I opened up the packaging, I just took the mask out with all the care possible, thinking it would start boiling in my hands (haha). It looked mostly like an ordinary sleeping mask, especially with the checkered designs, that looked like Grandma's slippers (lol). I laid the mask on my eyes. It fitted very well, and OMG, it gradually started warming up. Not to the point of making me fear it would roast my eyes. It was actually like having a warm pack on the eyes. It was interestingly relaxing for my eyes and there was that rose scent emanating from it which was quite gentle and pleasing. I indeed felt like in a spa with the gentle scent. Now that it is currently winter here, it was even more enjoyable. Ultimately, my eye area would feel sweaty and moist. After about 6 minutes, the eye mask would cool down, but it happens to start heating again but for a shorter period.

Meh with the mask. Headband not included
Ear Straps

Well, my eyes do not get puffy easily as I try to get as much sleep as I can to avoid dark circles. But I did felt they were less swollen from exhaustion. So, I am sure it would relieve people having puffy eye issues. It would be indeed more appropriate to use on long annoying flights or after hard day's work or if you are totally sleep deprived.

Pros:
-Relaxing
-De-puffing properties
-Safe
-Innovative
-Cheap
-User-friendly ear straps
-Environment-Friendly (cotton pads are biodegradable)

Cons:
-Not Swag (grandma slipper designs (lol)

So, I'd give a thumbs up to Kao Megrhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask. It is a very innovative and safe concept. Japan will never cease to amaze me with their inventions be it Science, IT, and cosmetics. I recommend it to you, for those who have puffy eyes, or even those who stare at their screens for too long. It provides the breather you will require for your exhausted eyes. Special thanks to my cousin for introducing that unknown brand to me.

STAY BEAUTIFUL AND SWEET!
